Kabutemba: Building a Village
In partnership with the Rotary Club of Bukoto (RCB), the Lutaya Dream Resource Foundation (LDRF) is leading a project to develop Kabutemba village in Gomba.
Abram Lutaya, son of Tito Lutaya, and his wife, Robinah Lubwama Lutaaya, visited Gomba for prayer and sought an alternative to their usual place of worship, the Central Church of Buganda at Kasaka. After visiting several churches, they were led to a congregation at Kabutemba, only to find the church gathering under a tree. Deeply moved, the Lutayas initiated a fundraising campaign among friends and family, which resulted in the construction of a proper church at Kabutemba.
A safe learning environment
In the spirit of community service, the residents of Kabutemba approached the Lutayas with another request. They asked to use the church as a nursery school during the week, as their children had to walk long distances to attend school, facing numerous risks such as kidnapping, assault, and exposure to harsh weather. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Robinah Lutaya proposed building a dedicated school to Hon. Sebalu, then President of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, who was equally touched and helped to kick-start the project. Over the years, every succeeding president of RCB has carried the project forward, including PP Yohannes, PP Michael Opira, PP Moses, PP Gloria, PP Edith Mujwisa, PP Edith Kakuba, PP Mercy, PP Robinah Lutaaya, PP Grace Mulindwa, PP Claudia, and now President Alice.
The Rotaractors of Bukoto also took on significant responsibilities, including constructing the nursery block and sponsoring orphans from Kabutemba. The school project is ongoing, but it has already created a safe learning environment for the village’s children.
The construction of a Health Center
Following the school project, the community requested the construction of a health center to cater to their medical needs. The health center will include a general ward, maternity ward, and children’s ward. Currently, construction of the general health center is underway, with plans to expand its services once completed.
